Senior National Team Intensify Training Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers
In a bid to secure their place in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the men’s senior national team continue training sessions at the SKD Sports Complex with just a few days left before the crucial qualifier matches against Togo and Algeria.
Coach Mario Marinica announced in early August a list of 32 home-based players to begin the preparation with a comprehensive plan designed to sharpen the team’s skills and boost their performance on the field.
The intensified training schedule includes double sessions each day, focusing on both technical and tactical aspects of the game. Players are now engaging in high-intensity drills that simulate match conditions, with particular emphasis on improving ball control, passing accuracy, and tactical awareness. The coaching staff is also integrating scenario-based practices to prepare the team for various game situations they might face during the qualifiers.
The training sessions also include more rigorous endurance, strength, and agility workouts aimed at enhancing physical readiness.
Coach Mario is expected to announce his final squad in the coming days before the team’s departure to Togo.
The Lone Star will first travel to Togo before hosting Algeria in the second game slated for 10 September at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.
