Coaching Education

The LFA currently has a Coaching Education System in place with five (5) different levels:

  • CAF D License (Grassroots) – 5 days
  • CAF C License (Introductory) – 10 days
  • CAF B License (Level 1) – 20 days
  • CAF A License (Level 2) – 30 days
  • Professional License (Level 3) – 70 days

CAF Pro License: Expert level

The pinnacle of coaching qualifications, the CAF Pro License is reserved for the most experienced and accomplished coaches.

Curriculum and Focus:

  • Advanced coaching methodologies
  • Leadership skills
  • Managing high-profile players

Responsibilities:

  • Coaching national teams
  • Leading teams in major international tournaments (e.g., AFCON, FIFA World Cup)
  • Shaping the strategic direction of elite football clubs

This level of certification prepares coaches for the most demanding roles in football, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to succeed at the highest levels.

CAF A License: Elite level

The CAF A License represents the elite level of coaching, focusing on the highest standards of technical and tactical knowledge.

Curriculum and Focus:

  • Complex strategic planning
  • Advanced technical training
  • Leadership in high-stakes environments

Responsibilities:

  • Coaching professional first teams
  • Leading teams through complex strategies
  • Providing guidance at the highest levels of competition

Coaches with an A License are equipped to handle the demands of top-tier football, preparing them for national and international competitions.

CAF C License: Development level

Moving up the coaching hierarchy, the CAF C License focuses on the development of players in more advanced age groups and competitive environments.

Curriculum and Focus:

  • In-depth coaching methodologies
  • Tactical analysis
  • Sports psychology

Responsibilities:

  • Coaching junior and amateur levels
  • Developing players’ skills from basic to advanced techniques

Coaches with a C License play a crucial role in transitioning players from foundational skills to competitive play, ensuring a seamless progression in their football careers.

CAF D License: Foundation level

The CAF D License serves as the foundation level for aspiring football coaches. This entry-level certification equips coaches with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work with youth and amateur players.

  • Introduction to the laws of the game

Responsibilities:

  • Leading grassroots development programs
  • Coaching youth teams
  • Conducting introductory level coaching sessions

The D License ensures that coaches are well-prepared to nurture young talent, laying a solid foundation for future footballing success.
